On February 4, 2025, Vercel introduced Fluid Compute, a new infrastructure model that blends serverless efficiency with traditional servers’ flexibility. Early adopters report up to an 85% reduction in computing costs thanks to the changes like:
- Compute resources activating only when needed.
- Instant scaling from zero to peak traffic without pre-warming is now possible.
- Existing resources are being prioritized before provisioning new ones, which reduces waste.
- Billing is based on actual compute usage.
- Faster startups with pre-warmed instances and bytecode caching, minimizing cold starts.
- Streaming and post-response processing support
Fluid Compute is now available to all Vercel users, and no additional configuration or overhead maintenance is required. All you need to do is enable it in the Functions tab of your Project Settings.
