At Meta Connect 2024, Meta announced that Instagram and Facebook have been rebuilt for Quest VR headsets to help users immerse fully in their favorite social media.
The Facebook app was rebuilt using React Native to allow for fast iteration, smooth animations, and stellar cross-platform performance. Choosing React Native enabled seamless interactions, like swiping through content and watching videos in a mixed-reality environment.
It also made it possible to implement code sharing between desktop and VR. This reduced development time and improved performance across platforms.
Meta’s decision to develop the VR app with React Native shows the company’s support for the framework and highlights its focus on new technological solutions for its flagship products.
